HOPE for the New Year

HOPE-JP • Jan 12, 2022

Dear Friends of HOPE,

From all of us at HOPE Japan, let me wish you a Happy New Year! May 2022 be prosperous for you and your loved ones, and especially this year, may we all remain healthy and well.

Thank you for being a faithful supporter of HOPE Japan. This year your contributions will provide those in most need with access to clean water, education, and livelihood resources. Let me share our announcements to celebrate HOPE with you.

HOPE for 2022

Cambodia: Water Project in Veal Veng District, Pursat Province

In 2021 the Dry Season Rice project in Bakan was completed. This livelihood source for 400 families includes organic pest management, pig raising, home gardening, and composting for sustainable farm systems. In Pursat we built 10 wells for 184 households in Krawsaing Pnov. Now in 2022 we will build 10 new wells in Krawpeu Peekrom in their integrated community development project. HOPE is also building an elementary school in Krawsaing Pnov thanks to your generous participation in our first ever crowdfunding campaign. In 2022, we will conduct another campaign to continue our annual school building commitment.

Ethiopia: Progress in the Southern Nations and Nationalities Peoples' Region

Construction of the Garbanza Galo, Uba Yambala, and Kale Malo water systems were all completed in 2021. These are now a source of hygiene and sanitation to prevent waterborne diseases in Bonke and Oyda district. We also constructed sanitary latrines at schools to halt disease vectors. However, the urgency of the projects in Bereta and Bagara continues as children’s health suffers and women still spend much of their day collecting water. The Women’s Empowerment through Community Participatory Water Supply System, which will benefit some 19,806 people through self-help groups and income generating activities that began in 2021 will continue throughout 2022 into 2023.

Philippines: Seeds of HOPE

HOPE Japan is providing more opportunities for higher education to Indigenous Youth in the Philippines who otherwise would be deprived due to social and financial reasons. We are deeply thankful to the generous donors that graciously provide scholarship funds for these outstanding students.
