I Love You Mum!

HOPE-JP • May 22, 2018

Mothers: the life givers, nurturers, and sources of unconditional love - it is the same across the world. Meet some of the amazing Mums that we meet in the field here!

Chem Sarouen (Pursat, Cambodia)

For Sarouen, a widow and mother of three, receiving a HOPE well has been an enormous source of relief. Her children no longer have to walk 1.5km to fetch water in a river that was often too dangerous for them to reach. They can also now bathe in clean water whenever they wish, in the safety of their home. Mum is now growing vegetables to feed her family and sell in the market too!

Sansem (Pursat, Cambodia)

With their new HOPE well, Sansem has been busy expanding the family fields and growing crops such as string beans and oranges. For her, seeing her children properly fed and happily snacking on their homegrown oranges has been the most wonderful life change.

Dayto Dayza (Kuta, Southern Ethiopia)

Having recently lost her husband, Dayto and her family were struggling to make ends meet by farming their small plot of land. But since HOPE began its activities in the area, Dayto has joined a Self-Help Group and is partnering with her fellow members to save and learn to plan for the longer-term. She now feels empowered, as she is able to really think and plan for her family's future.

Hance, from daughter to mother (Philippines)

Some of you may be familiar with Hance, who was featured in our film on the Pamulaan Center. Hance is now in her final year, working hard towards earning her Bachelor’s degree and accomplishing an education that her Mother could only dream of her attaining. Her Mother - a teacher in the community herself - endured a whole life of extreme poverty but worked tirelessly to raise Hance and her elder sister. Both are now in university and now making plans to help their community and give their Mother everything that she deserves.
