Rainbow Walk of HOPE

Rainbow Walk of HOPE

Rainbow Walk of HOPE

Note to Participants:

While we are anticipating great weather and another successful walk for water this Sunday October 21st, we would like to inform you that unfortunately due to illness and mechanical problems, the Back2Brooklyn food truck will not be present on this years Rainbow Walk of HOPE. Instead of a Lime Green Truck, there will be a white van with HOPE team members wearing white and blue t-shirts at the starting point and the 4.5 km halfway point for individual and team registration.

Below is a message from Tony Torres who is the owner of the Back2Brooklyn food truck, a dedicated supporter of HOPE, and a dear friend of ours.
On behalf of the Back2Brooklyn food truck, I want to thank you for participating in this weekend’s rainbow walk of HOPE event. Unfortunately, due to illness on my behalf, I will not be able to join you. In addition, the Back2Brooklyn food truck is out order due to mechanical problem and the truck will not be able to take part in the event. I sincerely apologize to everyone who was hoping to see the food truck at the event. We will try again next year. Thank you for bringing water to those in need.

Thank you for understanding. We are looking forward to seeing you on Sunday.

In Japan, clean drinkable water is only a few steps away. Yet around the world, millions walk several kilometers each day to fetch unsafe water. On October 21st, HOPE International Development Agency, Japan (HOPE-JP) will be hosting our third annual Rainbow Walk of HOPE. However, this year we have a new starting point and route that will take us by some of Tokyo`s most iconic locations including, once again the Iconic Rainbow Bridge.

Our 2018 walk will be a 9 km self guided route with an option to join at the 4.5 km mark. Generously sponsored by HIlton Tokyo Odaiba, Morrison & Foerster LLP, and supported by Back2Brooklyn. All proceeds will go towards HOPE JP water projects focused on providing even more families with a life-time of clean water.

The Walk

This Year's walk begins in a 400-year old fishing village tucked away just a couple hundred meters from Tsukishima Station.
The route will take you through this quaint and historic little corner of Tokyo. Following a walk down Monja street, which is one of Tokyo’s famous food Streets. across the Kachidoki bridge and straight through the streets of Tsukiji Fish Market area, at the 2 km mark. At the 3 km mark you will be skirting the Elegant Hama Rikyu Park, then onto the Hinode Station which is the half way point. Back2Brookylyn Food truck will be waiting for us there and some folks, particularly families who need a shorter route will join us at that point. Then onto the Rainbow bridge it self beginning at 6km. You may choose which elevator and which side of the bridge you will walk. It all depends on you and which view you would like to take in. Either overlooking the city or out to the port and the pacific. At the 8km mark you will be walking down the bridge and onto the beach, walking the last kilometre along the beach until you arrive at the Statute of Liberty. Just past this smaller sized replica, you will be turning left up the grand stairs and will be happily greeted by HOPE and Hilton Staff who will guide you to the delicious refreshments. If its fair weather it will be on the terrace and if raining we will still be outdoors, but on level one in a covered area.

What Clean Water Can Do

Access to clean water is the first step out of poverty.

By having clean water, families can stay healthier, practice good sanitation, and leverage the water to grow crops and increase their income. Children can also go to school, because they no longer have to spend the majority of their days fetching water. A good infrastructure for water enables people to direct their energies towards other means that will improve their living standards. Learn more by watching our short film from Ethiopia here.
