Dear HOPE Japan Friends,
As we approach the dawn of another year, contemplating the obstacles and achievements we've encountered throughout 2024, amidst global turbulence, one truth remains constant: your steadfast commitment has been a ray of light for the countless individuals we've helped defeat extreme poverty. You've brilliantly ignited the flame that powers our shared mission: "Helping the Neglected Poor Become Self-Reliant."
We acknowledge the good fortune that surrounds us and recognize that not everyone has access to vital necessities such as clean water, education, or the means to be self-sufficient. As this year concludes, let's remember that our collective empathy and kindness define our humanity.
Our friends in Cambodia, Ethiopia, and the Philippines face daily hardships, primarily due to the scarcity of safe drinking water. Thus, HOPE begins with water, progresses to education, and extends to initiatives that cultivate skills, self-assurance, and independence. HOPE initiatives construct wells and water systems, deliver sanitation and hygiene education, and empower women through health programs and income-generating activities. Your generous contributions have enabled thousands in Ethiopia, Cambodia, and the Philippines to attain healthier and more prosperous lives.
As we enter the festive season, a time of joy and togetherness, I'm reminded of the profound influence education has on molding our lives. Envision, for a moment, a childhood without schooling - an existence where enduring friendships never blossom, and the ability to comprehend these words remains out of reach. Education, as highlighted by UN Sustainable Development Goal 4, is crucial for fostering a harmonious and thriving world. It equips individuals with the knowledge and abilities essential for health, employment, and understanding.
Our pressing mission calls us to construct a primary school in Dei Kraw Horm Village, Cambodia, for 417 eager learners. The foundation is set, and construction awaits - a project anticipated to span three to six months, weather permitting. Upon completion, the school will be entrusted to the village, with qualified educators provided by the Cambodian Ministry of Education and sustainable funding. Your support can illuminate the path for underprivileged children in Cambodia to embark on a more promising future.
In the spirit of the season, we invite you to contribute to our cause. Your generosity during this festive period will significantly impact the lives of those most in need. Together, let us go forward in our journey 'from water to self-reliance,' confident that our united efforts will alleviate extreme poverty and empower the neglected poor to become self-sufficient.
Wishing you a festive holiday season and a new year brimming with optimism, compassion, and positive change.
With sincere gratitude,
Jeffrey S. Behr
